Safer lithium-ion charging starts before smoke or fire.

Flashpoint Safety Systems Launches Early-Warning Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Products

Flashpoint's new CORE and Go systems are designed to give homes, installers, e-bike users, and safety professionals an earlier warning layer before lithium-ion battery failure becomes a fire emergency.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — May 27, 2026 — Flashpoint Safety Systems announced today that its pre-sale website is now live and accepting orders for the company’s first two lithium-ion battery safety products: Flashpoint CORE and Flashpoint Go.

The launch comes as lithium-ion batteries become increasingly common in homes, garages, solar battery systems, e-bikes, scooters, power tools, backup power systems, and commercial charging environments. While lithium-ion batteries are essential to modern energy and transportation, fire-safety researchers and public agencies continue to warn that battery failure can escalate quickly once thermal runaway begins.

In testing published by the Fire Safety Research Institute, part of UL Research Institutes, ignition occurred just 13 seconds after first visible smoke in an e-scooter battery thermal runaway test. FSRI’s residential testing has also shown that visible battery gas or smoke may be followed by dangerous fire conditions in seconds.

The risk is no longer theoretical. The FDNY reported 277 lithium-ion battery fires in New York City in 2024, compared with 268 in 2023. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) proposed safety standard package for micromobility lithium-ion batteries identified 227 incidents from 2019 through 2023 involving fires, explosions, gas release, burns, overheating, or smoke inhalation, associated with 39 deaths and 181 injuries.

Flashpoint was created to address the warning gap that can exist before smoke, flame, or full thermal runaway becomes the first obvious sign of trouble.

“Lithium-ion batteries are not going away — and they shouldn’t,” said West Carnahan, founder of Flashpoint Safety Systems. “They power the devices, tools, vehicles, and energy systems people rely on every day. But the safety layer around them needs to mature as quickly as adoption has. Flashpoint is built around earlier warning, because in a serious battery failure event, seconds can matter.”

Flashpoint CORE: Early Warning for Home Energy and Battery Storage

Flashpoint CORE is designed for home energy storage, solar battery banks, residential battery backup, and small battery energy storage system environments. CORE is built to provide an early-warning layer around lithium-ion battery installations by monitoring for early battery failure indicators and providing alerts that support faster response.

CORE is intended for homeowners, solar installers, residential energy professionals, safety-conscious property owners, and organizations using lithium-ion battery backup or storage systems.

Flashpoint Go: Monitored Charging for E-Bikes and Scooters

Flashpoint Go is designed for monitored charging of e-bikes, scooters, and micromobility batteries. The system is intended for garages, shops, fire stations, delivery operations, shared charging areas, and other places where lithium-ion charging has become part of everyday life.

The goal is not to discourage micromobility. E-bikes and scooters are useful, efficient, and increasingly important. Flashpoint Go is designed to support safer charging habits by adding an early-warning layer around one of the most important moments in battery use: charging.

A Layered Approach to Battery Safety

Flashpoint products are designed to support earlier detection and faster response. They do not replace safe charging habits, certified equipment, professional installation, applicable codes, smoke alarms, fire suppression systems, or emergency response.

Instead, Flashpoint is designed to add another layer closer to the beginning of a battery failure event.

“Waiting for smoke may mean waiting too long in some lithium-ion battery environments,” Carnahan said. “Our mission is to help people recognize risk earlier, respond faster, and use battery technology with more confidence.”

Safety Disclaimer

Flashpoint products are designed to support earlier warning and safer response to lithium-ion battery failure conditions. No safety product can eliminate all risk. Users should always follow manufacturer instructions, use certified equipment where available, comply with applicable codes and standards, maintain working smoke alarms, and evacuate immediately if there is smoke, fire, unusual odor, heat, swelling, popping, hissing, leaking, or other signs of battery failure.
